Testonline – Online Math Assessment testing

ERAC has extended its agreement with Testonline, a BC-based company, which provides a service that enables schools to conduct online math assessment testing for Grades 3-10. All tests conform to the Western & Northern Canadian Protocol (WNCP) Common Mathematics Curriculum.

ERAC has worked with the service provider to provide improved basic pricing and discounts for 2010 / 2011.

Teachers, principals and administrators have 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-per-week access to both individual student and division data that enables them to customize the classroom learning experience.

Summary

This agreement is available to all ERAC member districts and associate member independent schools. This agreement includes the following components:
The Tests

  • The tests for Grades 3 – 10 are composed by a group of curriculum directors from twelve B.C. school districts.
  • The tests are presented to the students on the web via the browser.
  • The web hosting is on a secure dedicated SSL-enabled server in Canada.
  • The online form is protected by a gateway that requires students to enter their PEN student data (minimally student or PEN numbers), which are loaded onto the server and are used as passwords to access the forms (tests).

Reports

Reports are pre-configured, and data is reported by:

  • division
  • school
  • district
  • student
  • strand
  • achievement levels

Within reports, data can be queried (filtered) by:

  • gender
  • aboriginal / non-aboriginal
  • ESL/non-ESL
  • student (including strands)
  • combinations of these

Data is presented in tables. Reports are downloaded in .PDF file format. Full data sets in .XLS are included for further analysis by the school or district.

Administration

All form and data administration is managed by Testonline.ca, including:

  • supplying and managing the servers.
  • composing and loading the forms onto the servers.
  • managing site traffic (bandwidth).
  • monitoring and managing the online database.

Details

  • The tests are online 24 hours a day, seven days per week. A district coordinator appointed by the school district uploads an XLS file of PEN or student numbers (along with demographic data) onto the server. (This could be done for all participating divisions at once or in batches.) The coordinator notifies the teachers when the test is ready to be administered.
  • The teacher takes the students to the school computer lab to complete the test. Students use either their PEN or student number to log in to the test. When the division has completed the test, the user (teacher or school administrator or district coordinator) logs on at https://testonline.ca/admin/ and, using drop-down lists, requests and downloads the reports and/or databases in either .PDF format (reports) or .XLS (databases). Those reports are distributed within the district as required.
  • Testonline conforms to all privacy policies as applicable under the laws of British Columbia.

Testimonials

"School District #73, Kamloops Thompson, have used Testonline to inform Math instruction from grades 2 -7 for the past three years. This assessment for learning diagnostics tool has proven very useful to teachers, parents and students to identify strengths and areas of improvement. The results are presented in an easy to follow manner and have proven to be very informative."
Blair Lloyd, Numeracy Coordinator

"Our district began using Testonline's online diagnostic math assessment in September 2007 when I was the District Numeracy Resource Teacher for School District #22 in Vernon, British Columbia. The data that the service provided our School District with was invaluable, as it helped teachers identify where our students strengths and weaknesses were in each Numeracy strand. This information has helped our teachers to tailor their instruction to the needs of our students, and has heightened our awareness of the new WNCP Mathematics Curriculum in British Columbia."
Tracy Godfrey, Numeracy Coordinator
